Nottingham mid-15th century

A mid-15th century Nottingham alabaster relief of the Annunciation

Minimal remains of former polychromy. A high-relief depiction of the Virgin kneeling at a prie-dieu beneath a canopy, facing the angel of the annuciation with hands extended. A lily is depicted between them and God the Father with a globe above the angel, breathing life into His Son. The style and composition of this piece are closely related to that of the previous lot "The Adoration of the Magi", which bears identical dimensions.
Signs of weathering to the surface. Wear with losses to the fingers and banderoles. Mounted on a black wooden plinth with a back panel. 43 x 32 x 6 cm.
