A wooden figure of Saint Elisabeth, probably Central German, circa 1470/80

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. Partially overpainted older polychromy. A figure of the Saint standing in contrapposto designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She wears a veil, high-waisted gown, and floor-length cloak. Her attribute, the beggar man, is depicted at her feet, along with a crown and basket of flowers which could be later additions.
A large hole to the back of the head. The beggar's staff replaced. Minimal wear. Height 70 cm.
