A boxwood netsuke of a sennin with an octopus. Late 18th/early 19th century

The long-haired and bearded sennin stands tall and upright with a basket hanging from his belt, hand raised in a gesture of surprise and clutching an octopus by its head, which winds its long tentacles around the sennin’s body. Restored.
Height 12.2 cm

The figure can also be interpreted as an ashinaga.
