An 18k white gold and aquamarine intaglio ring

Set with a rectangular aquamarine intaglio carved in the Hellenistic manner with a triton and a nereiad amid waves (ca. 16.24 x 11.88 mm). Minor chips to the edges of the stone. Ring size 59. Weight 5.3 g.
18th C. gem in a modern setting.

This lively composition is reminiscent of a lost Augustean intaglio by Thamyras from a reliquary formerly housed in the Vienna treasury that now only exists as an 18th century paste replacement.
