Oil on canvas, formerly laid down on firm artist's board 32.7 x 23.9 cm Framed. Monogrammed 'C.H.' in black lower left. - Stamped by Nürnberger Kunsthandlung "E. Meyer-Schrag" verso on card and frame. - A narrow part of the margin under the frame partially left unpainted and slightly browned.

Curt Herrmann, a graduate of the Munich Art Academy, and his wife Sophie Herz from Pretzfeld Castle, settled in Berlin in 1893. Herrmann became founding director of the Berlin Secession. He became friends with Harry Graf Kessler and Henry van de Velde, among others, and strived for the further dissemination of Neo-Impressionist painting. Renowned collectors such as Helene Kröller-Müller and Karl Ernst Osthaus were interested in his works. In 1923, Curt and Sophie Herrmann moved to Pretzfeld, in Franconia, where the part of their estate that had not been removed to England by their son was destroyed in the Reichskristallnacht of 1938.
