Georg Kolbe - Pietà (Trauernde, Kleine Pietà)
Georg Kolbe
Pietà (Trauernde, Kleine Pietà)
1928
Bronze 26.4 x 22.5 x 20.1 cm Monogrammed 'GK' (joined) on the right sole of the foot and foundry mark "BERLIN H.NOACK". Probably one of 4 casts. - Light brown patina.
The Pietà belongs to the mourning figures which Georg Kolbe created after the death of his wife. In the same year, he designed a slightly larger version with a slightly altered posture (Kleine Pietà, Berger 121) based on the smallest version here, and also realised it in a larger than life-sized sculpture (Große Pietà, Berger 122).
