A miniature cabinet, kang. Carved red lacquer. 18th century

A small, red lacquer cabinet with four doors and two drawers inside, with a further drawer below. The doors decorated with a dramatic, mountainous landscape with pavilions, trees and women of various ages. The upper doors depict on the left a woman sleeping being led by children, and two women with a baby on the right. The larger doors below show two women under a tree whose conversation is and an elderly woman at a window with a candle, whilst three women are depicted on the right, watching a man in a boat. The lower drawer shows four scholars with two assistants. The top, sides and inner drawers decorated with a fine swastika pattern, the inside, back and underside lacquered black. Brass fittings.
