A four-case inro. 19th century

Signed in an oval reserve on the base: Yamamoto Shunshi
In the shape of a bird cage on four short, stepped, red-lacquered feet with a flat top and a bow of silk cords. Behind the fine lattice bars, a pair of quails on one side, looking up to two tassels hanging above them, on the other side a further bird pecking. The base of the cage decorated with dense aogai inlays, in the centre a slightly sunken kinji panel each with a phoenix. Dense nashiji to the inside. A carnelian ojime.
Wrangham mentions this name for an artist from the 17th century, but this inro was made in the middle of the 19th century.

Wrangham erwähnt diesen Namen, für einen Künstler aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, dieses Inro ist jedoch in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts entstanden.
