Although Philips Wouwerman's original composition no longer exists today, we know of numerous versions of this motif by his followers. For example works in the Gemäldegalerie der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna (inv. no. 809), sold by Sotheby's, Amsterdam, 8.5.2001, lot 66 and Lempertz, Cologne, 22.11.1984, lot 90 (cf. Schumacher, Birgit: Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668). The horse painter of the Golden Age. 2 vols., Doornspijk 2006, vol. 1, p. 404, no. B25 and p. 448, no. C83 and vol. 2 illus. 624).
