A Vienna porcelain cup and saucer with maenads

With underglaze cobalt blue (Leithnerblau) ground and etched copper gilding (Leithnergold) decor. Of cylindrical form with angular handle and original saucer. Both sides of the cup and the saucer decorated with bacchanalia scenes in Attic landscapes interspersed with medallion motifs. The well of the saucer painted with stars on midnight blue ground. Blue "bindenschild" mark with dot, year number 88, dreher's number 30, saucer incised 87.
Vienna, Imperial porcelain manufactory under Konrad von Sorgenthal, fired 1788, the decor attributed to Martin Krävogel.
