A Nuremberg Baroque silver box

Rectangular box on four spherical feet. With flat hinged lid and clasp. All faces decorated with finely chased tulip flowers amid acanthus, the lid with corresponding decor and two lobes engraved with the arms of alliance of two Nuremberg patrician families monogrammed "GG" and "MHP". Minor restorations around the hinges. H 7; W 14; D 9 cm, weight 256 g.
Marks of Joachim Haußner, 1665 - 69.

The arms of alliance seen on the viewer's left is that of the Paumgartner family (also known as "Paumgärtner von Hollenstein und Lonerstatt"), the right that of the Pömer family. Both families are listed in the 18th century arms lists by Siebmacher, but are assumed to be extinct today.
The goldsmith Joachim Haussner is primarily known for his Baroque beakers with fine floral decor, including one piece housed in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
