A rare Zurich porcelain candlestick from the Einsiedler service

Two-flame candlestick with a sleeping Cupid in a bed surrounded by rocailles and a further Putti watching him from above. Exceptionally finely painted, especially the pillows and rocailles. Blue Z mark with two dots. Firing cracks with remnants of old retouches. H 17.9 cm.
Zurich, circa 1775 / 76.

This candlestick is part of a service ordered for Einsiedeln Abbey by the councilors of Zurich as a gift of thanks for their particularly generous hospitality. The service was delivered in 1776. The model master of this service is not known, but Ducret attributes it to Valentin Sonnenschein.
