A very early and important Afghan mortar

Golden yellow cast bronze with remains of red polychromy and traces of green corrosion. With four ornamental bands across the outer surface and the flared base including calligraphy and meanders. The horizontal rim with cartouche decor and dogs chasing rabbits. The outer surface with six ram's heads in two rows. Cracks due to the casting process. H 12.5, D 18 cm. Weight 5,0 kg.
Archaeological find from Masar-e Scharif, Northern Afghanistan, circa 8th C.
