A dated Netherlandish mortar with wolf's head handles

Cast bronze with dark brown lustre patina. Cylindrical form with solid base and flared rim. The outer surface divided by several horizontal mouldings beneath a broad banderole inscribed and dated "IC BEN GHEGOTEN INT IAER MCCCCCXX". Unusual handles formed as wolf's heads baring their teeth. Minor losses to the rim. H 15.7, D 20.3 cm. Weight 9.7 kg.
