A signed and dated mortar with hunting motifs

Cast bronze with mottled natural patina. Slightly conical form with protruding moulded rim and conical stepped base. The centre decorated with various motifs, some of which heavily worn: Two winged putti supporting a municipal coat-of-arms, pairs of figures, and a mounted hunter. A broad banderole around the rim inscribed "IACOP SER HEFT MY GHEGOTEN 1566". Vertical cracks. H 12.5, D 15.5 cm. Weight 4,0 kg. Including a later pestle.
