A dated Hachmann mortar with a bear pestle

Cast bronze with golden brown patina. A broad banderole around the rim inscribed "GADES WORT SAL BLIVEN IN EVICHKEIT", the base dated "ANNO DOMINI 1589". Decorated with a worn vacant (?) shield. The handles formed as crouching dragons. The pestle presumably original, with a central pommel and finial formed as a bear. H 13.5, D 14 cm. Weight 3.5 kg.
