A lacquer suzuribako. Kyoto. Early 20th century

With rounded corners and a slightly domed lid. Displaying pine saplings, ferns and sarutori ibara (Smilax China) in maki-e with berries inlaid in mother-of-pearl on a reddish ground. Black lacquer to the inside and ferns in maki-e. Water dropper of silver and an ink stone. Wooden box, the lid inscribed, the reverse of the lid signed Heian Tokusai saku and sealed Tokusai.
