A pair of Shibayama ivory tusk vases. Late 19th century

In inlays of mother-of pearl, tortoise shell, ivory and wood, a family of chickens in and under a blossoming cherry tree, on one vase a garden stone lantern, on the other a lantern hanging in the tree and various flowers, on the reverse hibiscus and hagi, flying birds and a tattered straw covering. Signed Masayuki on an inlaid brown tablet. The upper rim lined with silver, the bottom rim lined with brass, on a carved and lacquered wooden base. (2)
