A Nuremberg silver bridal belt

Designed as a flat narrow chain, the cast silver decorative clasp and hook to hang a bag or cutlery each flanked by decorative plaques with doves and cherub's heads. L ca. 88 cm, weight 168 g.
Maker's mark of the Master with the Rearing Animal (tentatively attributed to Hans Leonhard Wolff), 1674 - 81.

Six belt chains from the period 1650 - 1701 with the Nuremberg assay mark and this maker's mark are known to exist. Two are housed in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The present bridal belt is presumed to be the piece mentioned in the catalogue by Meister from the year 2007 on page 483.
