Wilhelm Trübner - Portrait of Fräulein St.
Wilhelm Trübner
Portrait of Fräulein St.
Oil on canvas. 50 x 40 cm.
Monogrammed lower left: WT.
The lady depicted in this portrait has not yet been identified. It is thought to be a portrait of one Fräulein Stölzel, whom Trübner refers to in a note as "rothe Stölzel" (red haired Stölzel). Alongside the present work, two other depictions of "Fräulein St." are known to exist, which are now housed in the Leopoldmuseum in Vienna and the Lentosmuseum in Linz.
We would like to thank Dr. Klaus Rohrandt for confirming the authenticity of this piece and for his kind support in cataloguing the work. The painting will be included in his forthcoming catalogue raisonné under the number G 135.
