An Islamic mortar

Chased cast bronze, presumably with sintered polychromy. Of cylindrical form with protruding upper and lower rims. Decorated with two rows of raised teardrop motifs and eight engraved rhombus motifs. The rims with calligraphic inscriptions. The base rounded and cracked due to use. H 13.5, D 15 cm. Weight c. 4.5 kg.
Attributed to Iran, 12th - 13th century.
