A magnificent small Hachmann mortar made for Heinrich Honnen

Golden brown cast bronze with polished natural patina, partially chased. The display side decorated with two winged demi-figures supporting a shield with the initials HK, the reverse with a lion's head mascaron flanked by two facing lions rampant. The rim and centre with cymatium mouldings. With a broad band below the rim inscribed in Gothic minuscule: "von godt kommet al", henrich honnen van godt comet all", the base inscribed with the date in majuscule: "ANNO DOMINI 1597". H 12.8, D 13.1 cm. Weight c. 3.3 kg.
