A signed Coesfeld mortar dated 1662

Cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of tapering form with a thick stepped base and broad inclined moulded rim. With a band of moulding in the centre below a coat of arms with a monogram and a plaque with a house mark. The rim inscribed with the caster's name in capital letters: "IOHANES HOGEBOOM ME FECIT COESFELTAE 1662". One knob handle with a casting fault, the rim slightly dented. H 23.8, D 27 cm. Weight c. 21.8 kg. Includes a later corresponding pestle.
