An Augsburg Baroque silver tankard

Silver; partly gilded. Parcel-gilt silver tankard with a domed hinged lid, scroll handle and rounded base with acanthus décor. The body decorated with a finely chased Old Testament scene, presumably the triumphal procession of David following the defeat of Goliath (Samuel 1:17-54). The lid with embossed flowers and acanthus scrolls, bifurcated thumb rest and a large spherical finial. Engraved to the underside with an inventory number and weight "No. 353 / No. 203 / 2 (Pfund) 86 So". A small loss to the base. Brands: BZ Augsburg for 1681 - 85, MZ Daniel Schwestermüller (1673 - 95, Seling No. 0830, 1721), tremolier engraving. Moscow import stamp from 1761 with numerous other tremolier engravings. Minor loss on the stand ring. H 22.5 cm, weight 1,196 g.
