A rare porcelain cup and saucer inscribed Montevideo

The display side decorated with the opulent coat of arms of Uruguay with crossed cannons, bayonets, and flags. The saucer inscribed “Montevideo 23 de Juno 1856 y 3 de Abril 1857.” Incised marks to the cup, impressed T and 95 (saucer). A restored rim chip, minor wear to the gilding.
Second half 19th C.

On 23rd June 1856 and 3rd April 1857, trade and shipping conventions were agreed upon between the Prussian customs union and Uruguay. This cup may have been produced as a memento for one of the authors of the treaty.
