A clay model from the Zizenhausen danse macabre by Anton Sohn (1769 Kimratshofen -1841 Zizenhausen)

The reverse flattened, with original polychromy.. 40 figures from the original series of 42 figures made in around 1822 and inspired by the danse macabre scenes published in 1623 by Matthäus Merian the Elder, which in turn are based on the scenes painted on the cemetery walls of the Dominican Abbey in Basel.
This lot includes the broken, but salvageable, 41st figure of the “noblewoman”, only the 42nd figure of the “usurer” is missing. In good overall condition with minimal wear and losses, some glued repairs. Height 12.5–15 cm..

Lempertz auction 331, Cologne, 11.-12.12.1931, lot 534 (41 figures). -Subsequently in a Dutch private collection.
