An Augsburg silver beaker

Tapering beaker with gilt interior on three spherical supports. Embossed with flowers, the lid with conforming decor, spherical finial and a plaque engraved with a coat of arms, the inscription "M. IOHANNES THÖNNIKER PFARRER IN TZSCHOPAU", and the date 1674. The rim subsequently engraved with the names of twelve countesses and baronesses from the families Ansemburg, Merveldt, Böselager, Nagel, Romberg, Schmiesing, Lilien, Wolff-Metternich and von dem Busche-Münch. H 12 cm, weight 166 g.

Johann Thönniker was born in Hermsdorf in 1627. He was a magister of philosophy and became a deacon in Jessen an der Elster in 1652 before becoming a parson in Zschopau in Saxony in 1670.
