An early writing cabinet with bismuth painting

Beechwood with polychrome decor over a bismuth base, wrought iron mountings and paper lining. Rectangular box with a slanted lid. Containing a narrow compartment with a lid. Painted throughout with flowering tendrils on coloured ground, the lid with a couple flanking a Renaissance style fountain surrounded by symbols of union. The inside of the lid with a lady doing embroidery. Only minor wear. H 12.3, W 29.2, D 18.8 cm.
