A sumptuously inlaid side table

Brass, tinted tortoiseshell, copper, ivory and palisander inlays on softwood corpus and solid cedarwood. Rhomboid base with pronounced corners supporting a shaft of octagonal section and an octagonal top with four drawers in the apron. All faces decorated with fine marquetry depicting tendrils, putti, and flowers. The top with columns dividing fields showing female allegories and vases of flowers. The edge of the top engraved "Gbr. Barth".

The brothers Adam and Stephan Barth also participated in the exhibition in the Deutscher Zollverein in Berlin in 1844. There they showed a "ladies work and toilette table in modern Renaissance style, the richly applied and beautiful marquetries of which merit special mention." (Himmelheber, p. 148)
