André Metthey (1871 - 1920), c. 1900.

André Metthey (1871 - 1920) began his training at the École des Beaux Arts in Dijon, but then concentrated on sculpture. Inspired by Édouard Garnier's "Dictionnaire de la Céramique" of 1893, he constructed a kiln to produce stoneware. From 1903 he also fired faience. In 1907 he presented the objects he had developed together with the artists Maurice Denis, Maurice de Vlaminck, Henri Matisse and Georges Rouault in the autumn Salon.

Provenance

Villa Clara Schumann, Frankfurt.
