Probably Central Germany second half 15th century

Four reliefs with scenes from the Passion, presumably central German, second half 15th century

Carved wood. The polychromy presumably late 19th century. Four high relief depictions on thin back panels. All figures standing on separate slanted plinths. The altarpiece shows scenes of Christ on the Mount of Olives, Christ at the column, Christ crowned with thorns, and Simon of Cyrene helping Christ carry the Cross. The reliefs presumably once formed part of an altarpiece dedicated to the Passion.
With wear throughout. Minor losses on the reverse backed with canvas. The edges replaced in some areas. Each c. 47 x 27 cm.

Provenance

Dutch private collection.
