A Deccani ceremonial dagger (kanjar). Central India, Deccan, Hyderabad

The hilt of flawless rock crystal with a flared pommel and hand guard with bud-like tips set with rubies and emeralds in gold kundun and dark green enamel, at the top of the pommel a cut diamond. The watered recurved double-edge blade with a reenforced point and ornamental central ridge. Mounted on a metal stand.

Provenance

Collection Dr. Alan John Cameron (1917-2002). Dr. Cameron was in the British-Indian Army in WW II, and in the British Army in Germany afterwards. He married and lived in Viersen near the Dutch border. He had three PhD degrees from the universities of Bonn, Leicester, and Utrecht.
