A small Berlin KPM porcelain jewellery box

Unidentified bombé-form model with emerald green ground and matte and polished gold décor, painted intaglios, scallop shells and coral branches. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark. H with lid 7.5 cm.
C. 1840.

This elaborately painted little box is one of the most precious objects produced by KPM during the time of the royal presentation gifts. It was most likely a personal present, possibly designed as an opulent gift box whose painted décor gave a clue as to its contents. It could also have formed part of a toilette set, possibly in silver gilt.

Provenance

Collection of Renate and Tono Dreßen.
