A Thai lapis lazuli necklace

18k/22k gold choker formed from 16 graduated lapis lazuli beads (diameter 18 – 21 mm) and two large filled repoussé gold beads with dragon motifs (diameter 30 mm). Interspersed with corded rings set with brilliant-cut diamonds and eight composite turquoise roundels. The diamonds in total ca. 3.86 ct. L 47. Weight 200.78 g.

The jet-set lady, fashion icon and jewellery designer Luciana Princess Pignatelli, née Malgeri (Rome 1935 - London 2008) was married to the Gulf oil manager Prince Nicoló Pignatelli and later to Burt Simms Avedon, a cousin of the photographer Richard Avedon. She worked as a jewellery designer in her latter years. She travelled twice a year to Bangkok to have her designs produced by Lotus Art de Vivre, one of Thailand's leading manufactories of high-quality handicrafts, founded by German-born Rolf van Bueren.
