A rare Aachen mortar from 1580

Golden brown cast bronze with brown natural patina. Decorated with several different horizontal mouldings, the lower section with a large coat-of-arms and two coin reliefs with a male and a female bust. Inscribed above the reliefs and below the rim in Latin capital letters: “HAST HEM SER 1580” and “WERST DEN HER DEN DACH VA STRVEN”. The handles formed as dolphins. Minor dents to the rim. H 13.6, D 15.5 cm, weight c. 4 kg.
