A Dutch mortar made for Daeniel van Hoeckholm

Golden brown cast bronze with natural patina. The centre decorated with a moulding flanked above and below by two bands of foliate arabesques, flowers, dogs, birds, and winged angel's heads. The reverse with a coin emblem bearing a vase of flowers, a dog and an inscription (heavily worn and thus illegible). With a wide banderole below the rim inscribed in capital letters: “DAENIEL VAN HOECKOLM 1644”. With two zoomorphic handles. Minor wear, slight verdigris in the indentations. H 14.6, D 15.5 cm, weight c. 3.7 kg.
Attributed to the van Trier workshop, Peter van Trier III., Nijmegen, 1644.
