A large Gothic cast iron mortar with pestle

Thickly cast iron with fine shimmering patina and minor corrosion. Of tapering form with a flaring rim and two lion's head handles. Decorated with bands of moulding and eight textured ribs. The corresponding pestle with tapering terminals, L 47.5 cm. H 28, D 36 cm, weight c. 50 kg.
Italy or France, 15th / 16th C.
