A Meissen porcelain basket with butterfly motifs and seasonal mascarons

Oval basket with braided handle and finely painted mascarons. The well decorated with a butterfly on a flowering sprig surrounded by insects and flowers. Blue crossed swords mark on filed down base. All of the foliate crowns restored. H 12.6, W 27.5 cm.

Literature

A second example is housed in the Stiftung Ernst Schneider, Schloss Lustheim (inv. no. ES 1163, in Weber, Meißener Porzellane mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern, vol. II, Munich 2013, no. 351). Julia Weber dates the modelling of the basket to November 1733, the production to around 1740 - 50.
