A Meissen porcelain beaker with bay leaf reliefs

Finely painted with a continuous Chinoiserie scene depicting two figures, birds, and a pavilion Unmarked. With some small rim chips. H 6.9 cm.
Ca. 1723, decoration attributed to Sabina Hosennestel.

The attribution to the Augsburg “hausmaler” Sabina Auffenwerth (married name Hosennestel, 1706 - 1782), daughter of the Augsburg goldsmith and porcelain painter Johann Auffenwerth, derives from Ulrich Pietsch's description of the Marouf Collection. This decoration was much discussed after the publication of Pazaurek's standard work, including by Barbara Beaucamp-Markowsky in her catalogue of the holdings of the Decorative Arts Museum in Cologne, which houses a teapot with the same decoration (inv. no. E 2933 a,b).

Provenance

Collection of Renate and Tono Dreßen.
