Theodor Aenvanck

Still Life with Fruit in a Wanli Dish on a Box, a Wine Flute, Silver Plates and Fruit scattered on a Table

Oil on canvas (relined). 63.5 x 73.5 cm.

Today we know relatively little about the Flemish still life painter Theodor Aenvanck. He was born in Antwerp, where he is documented as a pupil in 1647 and a master 1669 of the Guild of Saint Luke. He is thought to have travelled during the time inbetween. Thus far only still lifes have been attributed to the artist, and these are exceedingly rare. Dr Fred Meijer has confirmed the attribution of the present work to Theodor van Aenvanck upon examination of photographs, dating it to the mid-1650s.
