The artistic style of the German-British painter, sculptor, director and author Hubert von Herkomer, who grew up in the United States and was later knighted by the British crown, was as diverse as his many talents. He oscillated between Realism, the genre of the so-called “Belle Epoque“ exemplified in the present work, Art Nouveau and Symbolism. Hubert von Herkamer was an extraordinary personality; elegant, as shown in Jacob von Hilsdorf's photographs of him, extravagant in his lifestyle and a pioneer of motor sports in Germany.
