Giuseppe Piamontini

A terracotta bust of a woman “all´antica“ by Giuseppe Piamontini

Stained terracotta figure worked three-quarters in the round, the reverse hollowed out. First published in 2008 by Sandro Bellesi (op. cit.), this masterfully executed bust depicts a young woman with her gaze turned to the left, her cloak draped around her shoulders and her hair braided in a style reminiscent of antiquity.
The bust was created together with a further female bust “all'antica“ designed as a counterpart, which Sandro Bellesi and Mara Visonà (op. cit.) attributed to Giovacchino Fortini - a pupil of Giuseppe Piamontini and dated to around 1695 (see the following lot).
Minimal wear. Height 70 cm.

Provenance

South German private collection.
