A carved wood relief of the Deposition from the Cross, circa 1480

Probably oak, partially pierced. With very minimal remains of former polychromy. This high relief originally formed part of a crucifixion altar. It depicts Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus supporting the body of Christ whilst Mary Magdalene kneels beside Him with the ointment jar holding the dead figure's hand. Behind the Virgin, accompanied by Saint John, the vertical beam of the cross can be seen in the background.
The lower left corner missing. Minimal wear. 44 x 26 x 14 cm.
