A silver-mounted holy water stoop with the Virgin Mary

Oval vermeil plaque with enamel, carnelian, agate and coral appliques. The ruby glass dish supported by a carved ivory caryatid beneath a concave quartz plaque (possibly originally a spoon bowl) with a carved figure of the Virgin Mary on an agate globe entwined by a silver serpent. Fitted with three enamel plaques depicting the baptism of Christ, the Last Supper and the Crucifixion. Some of the appliques on the edge of the top lost. H with ring ca. 25, W 17.5 cm.
Attributed to Southern Germany / Augsburg, apparently using a South Italian silver plaque inalid with coral and gemstones, late 17th / early 18th C.
