Gabriel Viardot (1830 - 1906) ran one of the most famous Parisian workshops for the production of furniture in the Chinoiserie or Japonisme style. The company was founded in 1860, and Viardot was already awarded with numerous prizes at the Paris World Fair of 1867. His success continued at the world fairs in Antwerp in 1884 and Paris in 1889 and 1900. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London houses a cabinet produced by Viardot in 1888 (acc. no. W.17:1, 2-1971).
