"With an old hand-written label on the back of the card: “No 110 42/32 Schirmer [the rest illegible]”.
This small study in oils is reminiscent of Schirmer's earlier plein air depictions of the Neander Valley near Düsseldorf, and is especially comparable to the study “Bachrand im Gesteins”, which is only slightly larger and is housed in the museum kunst palast in Düsseldorf (illus. in exhib. Cat. “Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. Vom Rheinland in die Welt”, Düsseldorf 2010, vol. 1, p. 49)."
