Eduard Grawert

The Hubertusjagd in Grunewald

Oil on canvas (relined). 81 x 123 cm.

Eduard Grawert participated in the exhibitions of the Prussian Academy of Arts from 1830 to 1856. His motifs included hunting scenes, genre paintings and portraits. He often painted portraits of King Frederick William IV, becoming his court painter in 1856.
The present work is likely an autograph replica of Grawert's best-known painting entitled "Hubertusjagd im Grunewald unter Friedrich Wilhlem IV". Today the original painting is housed in the Grunewald hunting lodge.

Provenance

From the property of a Prussian aristocrat.
