A German 14k gold and diamond Art Déco brooch.

Two-part Belle Epoque style brooch with a droplet pendant. The wreath motif with droplet set with 67 old- and transition-cut diamonds (central stone c. 0.75 ct, K/L, vs; central stone of the pendant c. 0.20 ct, K/L, si; remaining diamonds in total c. 3.15 ct, L/M, p). Part of a family jewellery set. Later white gold pin with safety clasp. 4.3 x 4.0 cm. Weight 7.8 g.
Court jeweller Louis Werner, Berlin c. 1923, with later modifications.

According to the original owner's written bequest, the brooch was part of a large chest ornament with a peacock feather motif that was made for her wedding in 1923. Her father had seen the model in the window at the jeweller Friedländer on Unter den Linden in Berlin, sketched it and commissioned his goldsmith Louis Werner to recreate the brooch. During the Second World War, it was broken apart for the escape from Pomerania and the individual pieces were distributed among the women on the journey, who returned them all to the family after months of arduous travel. In 1947, the pieces were made into brooches and rings, which were given to the family members as souvenirs.
