An Islamic mortar

Engraved cast bronze with copper inlays, slightly worn patina with remnants of red pigment and verdigris. Of tapering form with protruding rim decorated with calligraphy. With two rows of lotus buds alternating with six raised rhomus motifs and engraved knots. Some minor dents to the rim. H 15.7, D 20.9 cm, weight c. 8.2 kg.
