An Islamic mortar with a bull's head handle

Engraved cast bronze with slightly worn golden brown patina, remnants of red pigment and verdigris. Of polygonal section with nine faces decorated with lotus bud reliefs beneath engraved niches. The handle formed as the head of a bull holding a ring. Wear to the engravings of the lower rim, the base slightly concave due to usage. H 13.3, D 16.4 cm, weight c. 7 kg.
Khorasan, 13th - 15th C.
